Book Review: On The Dinosaur Trail!

Walt: condense and paraphrase key ideas in a text.

Title: On the dinosaur trail
Writer: Sue Gibbison
Genre: Non-fiction

What happened in the story ( write the key facts. ):
This week our book was based our dinosaur prints, Dr Greg Brownie finding and researching about special dinosaur prints he found in New Zealand. This skill that he has been blessed with is special to have as normal people do find it hard to know facts about dinosaur prints and other facts that most palaeontologists. The main facts about this book was that Dr Greg Brownie spent much of his time to understand and figure special dinosaur prints, and through out his time of doing this much he had gone through many difficulties as for solving the mysteries he had. But by the end Dr Greg Brownie was able to find what these dinosaur prints were and so he published a special article about his journey while looking at dinosaur prints he found here in Aotearoa.

Did I enjoy this text? Why/why not?
Yes , I definitely enjoyed this text. Why? Well this reason is for I learned new facts like what a palaeontologists is, where are places in New Zealand where dinosaur remainings were found! Pretty cool right! I found this text exciting and full of many facts to keep in mind for a future event or project.

What is one key message/ fact that you learnt from the text?
While reading through this week’s book I found one fact that stood out to me. Which is in three different locations in New Zealand people found dinosaur remains before 2009! The list of places where dinosaur remains were found are Hawke’s Bay , Port Waikato , Rekohu. ( the Chatham Islands. )

Who would I recommend this book too? ( Gender , age , interest. )
Well I would recommend this book to year 6 to year 9 all genders. This reason is for I think year 6 students to understand what palaeontologists is and what they do, and I find that year 8’s and 9 should read this book to learn more our ancient times.

Task Description:
Hello there! As you can see I am sharing with yous all my book review for this book. This review is all about a book called On the Dinosaur Trail. Let's see what our task was to do.

One of our tasks was to write a book review which shows our readers what we have learnt from our book this week and if we understand it well. Which leads us here! I have completed a full task of what my book is all about. There are four main questions that we must answer, let's see what these questions are and what they are about.

Our first question was what happened in the story include the key facts. Our job for this question was to answer the question in full sentences as well as include the main features in the story we were given this week. In my writing I included the main person in our story ( Dr Greg Bronwe. ) , main features I found in our story , and what he had gone through to solve his mysteriousness journey. This task helped us to show to our teacher if we understood our book well and if we catch the key facts.

The second question we were given was did I enjoy this text. I wrote of course yes I did enjoy this text. I also stated why I enjoyed this text so others could find this text and maybe get interested as well.

Our third and fourth questions was , what is one key message/ fun fact we learnt and who would we recommend this book to. In my answer for the third question I wrote one fun fact that stood out to me the most. Why? Well when I was reading our text this fact I found really made me interested which made me continue to read more! And as for the fourth question I thought to myself who would I recommend this book to, I put year 6 students to year 9 students and also listed my reason why.

This week I really enjoyed our task , creating a book review. Because book reviews are really fun to create and I get to share with others what book I have read this week, and so others will be maybe more interested to read this book I read as well! Enjoy!

Animation Re Search!

Walt: To create a presentation that will help us with our animations.

Task Description:
Here i'm sharing with you all room 5 inquiry. These slides consist of facts about our continent we have chosen as well as the country we have chosen to do our animation about. This task was to help us with our animation, so this is like a plan before we start our animation.

Problem Solving! Week 4!

Walt: Illustrate howl solved each problem.

Task Description:
This week I am sharing with you all my new maths task. This task consist of my problem solving. This task was to help us learn how to explain how we figured out our answers easily. Let's see what this week maths is!

The three slides we had to figure out how many chip packets were in each box. This equation was hard when starting because I was unsure on how to solve it, but by the time I finally realised I was figuring out my question wrong these problems were easier to solve. I really liked these first three slides because I challenged myself to figure out easier ways to figure out problems.

Moving onto the next two slides we had the job of figuring out how many money our teacher ( Mrs IIaoa. ) would have saved by a specific week. I found these questions easy as all we needed to do in multiply and take risks.

Our last task was to also figure out a problem , this problem consist of me using a grid and using multiplication to solve the question out. Throughout this problem I couldn't answer all of the questions as they were hard to answer so I had to brake it up and solve it a different way. I really liked this first one because I got to multiply numbers!

Well that's it! This here is week 4 maths work. This work was very interesting and very fun. I got to learn different and easier ways to answer my maths equations. Enjoy!

Rata And The Totara Tree!

Rata and the totara tree.

Retold by: Katerina Te Heikoko Mataira

Non - fiction

This week’s book is all about a man Rata and a special totara tree. Let me give you a quick summary of what our book was about.

A while ago a man Rata, went hunting for a great tree to create a canoe for his village. He came across and Totara tree, he was extremely excited that he forgot to pray or give a traditional ceremony before his men and himself cut down the totara tree.

Off they went chopping the tree down, every day they’ll cut down the tree but as they will go back the next morning the tree will be in the exact position it was in when they started cutting it down. Rata was sick of this nonsense, he sent his men home and waited late at night to see who put the tree back into position. Worms , butterflies , birds , all the children of Tane put the Totara tree back into position. Rata realized that he didn’t do a ceremony before cutting the tree down, he slept with the tree throughout the cold night. When Rata woke up the next morning he was gifted with a beautiful carved canoe!

This week I found our book quite fun, my reason for this is because I got to learn the creation of the world and the separation of Rangi and Papa. I also got to learn that you must show respect at all times.

If I could share this book to others I will think that year 3 - 7 students will enjoy this book and will learn some news facts. Have you ever read this book? If not then I recommend YOU to check this wonderful retold story.

Fairy Tales!

Walt: Use striking words and phrases in sentences.

Task Description:
This week room 2 literacy is focusing on using striking words and phrases in sentences. This weeks task will help us make our sentences interesting and will make our reader more interested.

Our task this week was to work with a buddy to write a invitation to a made up guest to come to a dinner. But! When we are writing our invitation we had to pretend to be a famous fairy tale character. Why? Well this way is to hook the reader and make our writing interesting. By the last two slides can you figure out what fairy tale character my friend and I choose? Well good luck and enjoy this weeks writing!

Battle!

Walt: Make connections between a text, ourselves and the world.

Task Description:
This week we are focusing on making connections between a text , ourselves and the world. What could this mean? Well we are making some sort of connection between our story we read this week to ourselves and the world. Without further ado let's see what I did this week.

This week our book was called ' Battle. ' this book was based on a boy ( Timiona. ) having a serious dance battle at school. Our first task that was related to our book was to answer questions to see if we understood our book. The questions that where given to us where easy and I did understand the questions.

Secondly, we had to do a text to text. A text to text is where you have to write about a text that is simular to what we've just read. We also had to answer text to self, which is how the text we just read relates to ourselves, and this is followed by text to world. And as just like the others text to world means how does this weeks text relate to things going around the world. The text to text , text to ourselves , and text to world I found hard. This reason is because I can't really relate to any thing that happened in this book, but somehow I found things that do relate to this weeks book.

Another task we had to do was to do a book review. Lately I have enjoyed writing so I really enjoy creating a book review. Not too long ago I did share my book review with you all so hopefully you's all have enjoyed my book review.

Another task we had to do is a creative task. Each week or some weeks here and there we had to create a creative task. This week are creative task was to create a ending for this weeks book. This weeks book had a very interesting ending that didn't seem like a ending. So we got the opportunity to create a creative ending. I really enjoy this task because I got to be creative.

Lastly we got to rate this weeks work by ourselves , with a buddy and by a teacher. This week I didn't get time to let a buddy or my teacher rate my work so I rated only my work. This work I really enjoyed it because I had many fun tasks to complete , and I enjoy being busy with different things all the time!

Creating A Interesting Ending!

Battle ( Ending. )

Previously on battle:

Timiona ( the main character. ) had a very serious , straight forward dance battle. Against one of the best dancers at his school. This dance battle was extremely serious he lost his hoodie. But, it’s not just a ordinary hoodie. Inside his hoodie pocket was a very special medal that belonged to his great-great grandfather!

Timiona walked home hoodie-less , medal-less , and feeling upside down. As Timiona walked up to his front door he noticed his mums shoes. But what could her shoes be doing right at the front door? Well Timiona looked up and his mum with her head slightly turned to the right was holding his great-great grandfather’s medal. Opps! Timiona really messed up!

“ So , how was school? Timiona. “ , mum never calls me Timiona only when she’s angry. “ School was fine. “ , Did you lose anything!? “ , “ Yes “ , I didn’t want to reply with a yes but I knew she didn’t like it when I lied to her. Timiona always tired hard everyday to not do something wrong but today he really messed up. For the last couple of weeks Timiona was grounded he was never to lie again and never take things before asking. The end!

-----------------------
Task Description:
Today i'm sharing with you all another reading task for this week. Here we had to share on our blogs one of our tasks this week. Here it is!

One of our tasks this week was to create a writing tasks that was all about the ending to this weeks book, as this week our book had a very mysterious ending we got the opportunity to be creative and make up our own ending to our story this week. Here we had to write 2-3 paragraphs about our ending.

The very first paragraph and told my viewers a quick summery of our book this week before writing a creative ending. The first paragraph was easy as I only needed to write about the book.

The second and third paragraph was more of a ending to the book. We had to have at least four dialogue sentences. What could dialogue mean? Well dialogue is a sentence having a conversation with each other. These sentences give a i'm in the book point of view.

For this tasks for our new book this week I really enjoyed it because I got to be creative a come up with a ending for our book. I will enjoy doing this again because lately I have been enjoying writing.

Investigation!

Walt: To do a investigation on Libya.

Task Description:
This week we got assigned to find a country starting with the first letter of our name and do a investigation about that country. This country I choose here is Libya.

Our task was to answer a bunch of questions, I only got through three questions. The first question was " How was your country created? " This question was quite hard because in articles about Libya I couldn't find much facts about how Libya was mostly created. But I tired to find as much facts as I could to provided enough facts to answer my question.

Our second question that we were given was " Who is the biggest celebrity in that country? What do they do? " Now this question wasn't as hard as I thought. But the most hardest thing about this question was to find out who was actually the most famous person in Libya. Most people I found were from year ago but I came across this guy.

Our last question we had to answer was " Has your country ever been in war? How did it go? " The question wasn't hard either, but the fact that it was quite hard to find out if they did good our not was hard to find. So I just tired my best to find out any facts about a war in Libya.

I really enjoyed this task because I got to learn about a new country , and I also learnt new facts about Libya. Enjoy!

Book = Battle

Author = Maria Samuela

Fiction

In this story it’s all about a couple of kids at school having a dance battle. This dance battle is very serious, so serious that the main character lost something very special to himself. How? Well let’s find out!

During the story the main character was having a dance battle with this really good talented, Timiona ( the main character. ) got his name pulled out of a hat to battle that one very good talented girl. He had confidence in himself and ended up winning the dance battle. But he loses his great-great grandfather’s special medal! By the end of the story he finds his medal which is mum had the whole time.

I really enjoyed this weeks book because this text was all about a dance battle, i’m sure that Timiona was going through a very tough time wondering where his medal was the whole time. I would recommend this book to kids my age as there is many feelings throughout the book.

Geometry - Orientation!

Walt: Understand and use positional vocabulary.

Task Description:
For this weeks task we are learning about geometry - orientation. What could this be? Well continue reading to find out.

This week we got to do orientation. Which means we made maps , answered questions related to maps , and had to understand the main directions words mean. The first slide we had to understand meaning of a couple of words before starting to create maps or understand maps. By understanding the words we were given we will know more information about using a map and answering questions or even creating questions.

We also got to answer questions from a pre made diagram of a made up class. The questions that came with the diagram of the class room were easy as I understood what the questions meant. After we got to answer some questions we got to create a diagram of our own class! This task was fun as I got to made a diagram and I got to answer questions.

Our next task was to use another map we were given and answer another set of questions on the following slide. These questions were difficult because I didn't understand what they meant and how do I answer them, for the answers I tired as best as I could.

Our last task was to create our own map with around 10 streets and 8 main features on our map. Once we drew out our map we would have to give directions to get to all 8 features for our buddy to complete.

I really enjoyed this weeks math's task because I got to map makes , answer fun questions and got to work with people in my math's class. I hope we got to opportunity to work on these types of math's task again.

Fairy Tales

Walt: Create interesting openings/introduction.

Task Description:
This week for literacy we got to learn to create interesting openings/introductions for our writing. Why? The reason why we had to learn how to make very interesting openings is to hook the reader.

In this task we learned different opening's to hook our reader in different kinds of way. Hopefully you all will enjoy this task and learn something new!

The Grateful Crane!

Walt: Interpret figurative language.

Task Description:
This week we are reading a new book called " Tsuru no ongaeshi , The grateful crane." This book we read today is based on a beautiful Japanese Crane gifting an old couple from helping the Crane from a trapped net.

Our task this week was to understand our book this week. By answering questions from the book we were given. The questions that our teacher gave were easy as I did understood the book this week.

Another task we had to do is create a book review based on this book. When I was writing my book review I re wrote the story to share with younger kids at my school.

I really enjoy doing this task as I got to do a lot of writing and answering questions. If you didn't know I really enjoy writing and so I wrote a lot in our task this week.

Warm up! ( Homework Writing! )

Walt: To create a good writing about how bad homework is.

Warm Up:

Homework is terrible. I hate homework. I work pretty hard in school, and so I don’t know why I have to do so much at home, too. There is a lot of other stuff I’d rather do than homework. I wish we never had to do it anymore.

Our Version:

Homework will forever go downhill, whether it’s writing , reading or maths. It’s unnecessary-unneeded-un convenient and a complete waste of my time. Basically it’s half of my energy wasted on random knowledge. Don’t teachers think 6 hours is enough time to do learning? Well I guess not!

The Grateful Crane - Review / Re-write The Book!

Walt: Interpret figurative language.

Task Description:
Welcome to a new blog post for term 2! This term in reading we are learning about figurative language. In our new task i'm sharing with you all here is a review on our new book this week.

This week my group has been given a book called " Tsuru No Ongeshi, The Grateful Crane! ". As normal we have been also given a task. One of our task was to create a book review. Usually I do long writings for my book review, but as we are going to share with younger kids at my school I thought that a poster will be much suitable for younger kids.

In this task here I created a poster re writing the book we got given. So I basically wrote the whole story but in some places in my own words. I really enjoyed this task because I get to share with others what this weeks book is all about, and I got to learn something new. Which is the Japanese Crane. The Japanese Crane is very beautiful!
