Walt: Interpret figurative language.
Task Description:
Welcome to a new blog post for term 2! This term in reading we are learning about figurative language. In our new task i'm sharing with you all here is a review on our new book this week.
This week my group has been given a book called " Tsuru No Ongeshi, The Grateful Crane! ". As normal we have been also given a task. One of our task was to create a book review. Usually I do long writings for my book review, but as we are going to share with younger kids at my school I thought that a poster will be much suitable for younger kids.
In this task here I created a poster re writing the book we got given. So I basically wrote the whole story but in some places in my own words. I really enjoyed this task because I get to share with others what this weeks book is all about, and I got to learn something new. Which is the Japanese Crane. The Japanese Crane is very beautiful!

As I was reading campions book this week I was thinking what the word Mata I Pusi means? Well as I was reading the first sentence I learnt that Mata I Pusi means cat eyes in Samoan, very interesting right! Well what does this book mean besides Mata I Pusi, well let’s find out!
Key information in our book this week is that the main character is feeling embarrassed because since her father is Palangi and her mother is Samoan, she is being called Palangi because of her sea green eyes that has been gifted to her from her father. So Samoan kids at her school are calling her Palangi even though she is not.
Key facts that the author shared with us is that you should not be ashamed by who you looked like and you should not be ashamed of who you are which relates to your culture. The main character in our book is both embarrassed by who they are and who they look like/ what they look like. Being proud of yourself is important because you should be thankful for who you are.
I really enjoyed that book because I got to learn how our main character lives and her thoughts on having green eyes , light brown skin, and being Palangi and Samoan. If I got to recommend this book to others the age would be 8-15 years old. This reason for that is because kids at young and old age should know/be reminded to be proud of who they are. Like how I have just learnt to be proud of who I am.

Task Description:
This week campion are reading mata I pusi. One of our tasks was to create a review on our book we are reading this week. In this book we are learning to be proud of our culture and are learning about bi-racial, which means people having two cultures. This week I learnt about bi-racial and people are being judged on how they look from their identity. Enjoy!

Book: Reconnecting the brain

Brains are quite weird! Am I right? Well this week we had to face our fears and had to learn about the BRAIN! Since brains are a important part of our body we had to learn what does the brain do? As well as what our main character of our book does to study the brain. Well that’s enough let’s see what this book is all about!
Our main character Melanie seems like a very hard working lady that is always working towards her dreams to become a successful person in the future. Even though I haven’t meet Melanie I think she is a happy and a grateful person. You might think well what does Melanie have to do with this book? Well Melanie is a neurobiologist! The word neurobiologist means two main things. Neuro is brain, and biologist is a person who studies different things, and Neurobiologist is a person who studies a brain and cures for the brain. That’s what Melanie does for her job.
As a neurobiologist there are many struggles, for Melanie her struggles involved working with a tapu brain. The brain is very tapu which makes Melanie work harder. You might wonder what a neurobiologist might be? Well a neurobiologist is someone who studies the brain. Before she gets to work with the tapu brain she has to get a kaumatua, kuia, and Maori scholars and have a Korero Kanohi Ki Te Kanohi before working with the tapu brain.
I have enjoyed this book about the brain because I got to learn about new things that are about the brain as well as new Maori words I never knew was a thing. I would recommend this writing to kids 8 - 15 years old. This reason is to find out how the brain works and what a neurobiologist is. -------------------------------------------
