Zip The Power Of Two

DAY 3: Taking Action

Activity 1: Predator Free 2050 – A Call to Arms [4 points]
There is currently a huge drive to get rid of all predators from New Zealand. Predators are animals that, in some way, damage our natural environment. Many organisations are working hard to accomplish this goal.
Click on the links below to watch videos about three of the current projects operating to make New Zealand ‘Predator Free by 2050.’
Predator Free Video #1: Cacophony Project
Predator Free Video #2: Taranaki Mounga Project
Predator Free Video #3: Zero Invasive Predators (ZIP)
On your blog, tell us which one of the videos you liked the best and why.

  1. Hi Leilani,

It's Leslie here, a member of the Summer Learning Journey team.

You've done a great job of explaining why you chose the ZIP project as your favourite. Isn't it amazing what one person, with passion, can do? Big changes can come from small beginnings.

It's so unfortunate that these predator animals were ever brought to New Zealand in the first place. People just didn't realize that they would end up being a problem for the native birds and other animals that already existed on the islands. So sad that work has to be done now to eliminate them, but it wonderful that ways of dealing with this problem have been put in place.

I hope you've enjoyed learning through these activities and I'm so glad that you've chosen to be part of the program this summer. Good for you!!

I'll continue to enjoy reading your blog!

    Cheers,

    Leslie
